Ludo Rules

Ludo is one of the world’s best-known board games and is based on the traditional Indian game Pachisi. The board is divided into four colored sections. Each player chooses a color and begins with four matching pieces.

Your goal is to move all four pieces from your starting base, around the board, and into your home area. Ludo can be played by two to four players without teams.

How to Play

You must roll a six to move a piece out of your base and onto the board.

Safe Spaces

Your pieces are protected when they land on any of the safe spaces shown below. Opponents cannot capture a piece while it is on one of these spaces.

Capturing a Piece

If your piece lands on a space occupied by a single opposing piece, that piece is captured and returned to its starting base.

Reaching Home

To win, move all four of your pieces into your home area. A piece may enter home only with the exact number required. For example, if a red piece needs four spaces to reach home, it cannot move when the player rolls a five.

Special Cases

If you roll a six three times in a row, you lose your turn and cannot move any piece.

Barriers

Two pieces of the same color on one space form a barrier. Other pieces cannot land on or pass through that space, and the pieces forming the barrier cannot be captured.

Quick Mode

Quick Mode is played over one round. The first player to move one piece into the home area wins. In this mode, each player begins with one piece already outside the base.
