Tonj Rules

Tonj is a two-player card game played with two standard decks, excluding jokers, resulting in a total of 104 cards (52 cards for each player). The objective of each player is to get rid of the cards placed in front of them.

How to Play

1.  Each player starts with a complete set of cards, and four cards are dealt to the right of each player in structures called "houses”.

2.  Thirteen cards are placed in front of the player on the left, all facing down except for the first card, which is visible.

3.  The player with the highest-value card begins the round, and the remaining playing cards are placed on their right side.

4.  The player draws a card from the 13 in front of them, attempting to place it on the cards in the houses.

5.  If the card is not suitable, the player moves to the cards on the right side.

6.  If the player gets another unplayable card, they discard it into the fire zone, and the turn passes to the other player.

Card Placement

· The game begins with placing playing cards on the houses, arranging them in descending order and alternating colors.

· When an Ace appears, it is placed in the central vacant area between the houses (eight Ace cards will appear during the game), and the cards are arranged by type in ascending order from Ace to King.

· The ascending order is as follows: A – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 – 7 – 8 – 9 – 10 – j – Q – K.

· The turn shifts to the opponent if the player has no more moves or cards to place in the houses, in the vacant area, or on the opponent's card group.

· If a player draws a new playing card and there is a card in the houses, it must be arranged on top of the Ace.

· The opposing player has the right to stop their opponent's turn and take the turn for themselves; this action is called “Tonj”.

· The game concludes when one player runs out of cards, and the player who finishes their cards first is considered the winner.
